"Killer Instinct" for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), released in 1994, was a groundbreaking fighting game developed by Rare. It distinguished itself with its pre-rendered character sprites, which gave the game a visually stunning 3D appearance on the 2D SNES hardware.

The game featured a diverse cast of characters, each with their own unique fighting styles and special moves. Players could perform combos by stringing together various attacks and special moves, leading to devastating combo finishers known as "Ultra Combos."

"Killer Instinct" also introduced the concept of combo breakers, allowing players to interrupt their opponent's combo sequence by correctly inputting a counter-move. This added an extra layer of strategy and depth to the gameplay.

The game offered various single-player modes such as arcade mode and a tournament mode, as well as multiplayer modes where players could compete against each other.
