Defiance is a third-person shooter MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) that was released for various platforms, including the PlayStation 3, in 2013. The game is set in a futuristic Earth where alien technology has transformed the landscape and brought about a new era of conflict. Here's a brief description of the plot:
-
Alien Arrival:
- The story begins with the arrival of an alien species known as the Votans to Earth. Seeking a new home, the Votans' star system is on the verge of destruction, and they plan to settle on Earth. However, this leads to tension and conflict with the existing human population.
-
Terraforming Disaster:
- The Votans attempt to terraform Earth to make it more habitable for their kind, but the process goes awry. This results in a cataclysmic event known as "Arkfall," where chunks of Votan ships, called Arks, crash onto Earth, bringing advanced technology and altering the planet's ecosystem.
-
New World Order:
- The world undergoes significant changes as the Votans and humans attempt to coexist amidst the aftermath of Arkfall. The Earth Republic rises to power, attempting to maintain order, while various factions and alien species vie for control and survival.
-
Player Character:
- Players assume the role of Ark Hunters, individuals seeking advanced alien technology for personal gain. The protagonist, an Ark Hunter, becomes embroiled in the conflicts between humans and Votans.
-
Dynamic Events:
- Defiance features a dynamic open-world environment where players can engage in cooperative and competitive multiplayer events. The game's narrative is influenced by player actions and the outcomes of dynamic events that shape the evolving storyline.
-
Enemy Factions:
- Throughout the game, players encounter various enemy factions, both human and alien, each with its own motivations and goals. The conflict between these factions adds layers to the overarching narrative.
-
Evolving Story:
- Defiance's storyline evolves over time through episodic content updates and events, providing players with new challenges and revelations as they explore the game world.
