Destiny is a first-person shooter (FPS) multiplayer online game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. Released in 2014 for various platforms, including the PlayStation 3, Destiny is set in a mythic science fiction world where players take on the role of Guardians, warriors with powerful abilities, tasked with defending the last city on Earth from various hostile alien races and other threats. The game's narrative unfolds over multiple expansions and sequels. Here's a brief overview of the plot:
-
The Traveler:
- The game is set in a distant future where humanity has spread across the solar system. A celestial being known as the Traveler arrives and grants great technological advancements to humanity, ushering in a Golden Age.
-
The Collapse:
- However, a cataclysmic event known as the Collapse occurs, leading to the near extinction of humanity. The Traveler sacrifices itself to save what remains and hovers above the last city on Earth.
-
Guardians and the Last City:
- Players take on the role of Guardians, individuals resurrected by the Traveler's power, who wield its Light to protect the last safe city on Earth. The Guardians are tasked with defending humanity and reclaiming lost territories.
-
The Darkness:
- The primary antagonist is a cosmic force known as the Darkness, which seeks to destroy the Traveler and wipe out humanity. The Darkness manifests through various alien races, including the robotic Vex, the time-traveling Cabal, the mysterious Hive, and the enigmatic Fallen.
-
The Traveler's Light:
- Guardians harness the power of the Traveler's Light to wield special abilities called "Light subclasses." These include Titan, Hunter, and Warlock classes, each with unique skills.
-
The Speaker and The Tower:
- The Guardians are guided by the Speaker, a mysterious figure who interprets the will of the Traveler. The Tower, a social space in the last city, serves as a hub where players can interact, trade, and receive missions.
-
Expansions and Sequels:
- Destiny's narrative unfolds through expansions and sequels, introducing new threats, characters, and locations. Notable expansions include "The Taken King" and "Forsaken."
-
Raids and Endgame Content:
- Destiny places a strong emphasis on cooperative play, with players joining forces to undertake challenging raids and other endgame activities to earn powerful gear and advance their characters.
