"Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock" is a rhythm video game developed by Neversoft and published by Activision. It is the third main installment in the popular "Guitar Hero" series. The game was released for various platforms, including the PlayStation 3, in 2007. "Guitar Hero III" marked a significant evolution in the series, introducing new features and a robust soundtrack. Here's an overview of the game:
-
Gameplay and Guitar Controller: "Guitar Hero III" retains the core gameplay mechanics of its predecessors. Players use a guitar-shaped controller to simulate playing lead, bass, and rhythm guitar parts in various rock songs. The controller features a strum bar and colored fret buttons, allowing players to match on-screen notes as they scroll down the screen.
-
Soundtrack: The game boasts an extensive and diverse soundtrack, featuring a mix of classic and contemporary rock songs. Iconic tracks include "Slow Ride" by Foghat, "Barracuda" by Heart, "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones, and "Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce, known for its extreme difficulty.
-
Career Mode: The single-player career mode follows the player's journey from small venues to larger arenas, eventually leading to a showdown against fictional guitar legend, Lou. Completing songs and achieving high scores unlocks new venues and guitar battles.
-
Multiplayer Mode: "Guitar Hero III" introduced an online multiplayer mode, allowing players to compete against each other globally. Additionally, local multiplayer allowed two players to play cooperatively or compete head-to-head.
-
Guitar Battles: Unique to "Legends of Rock," the game introduces Guitar Battles, where players face off against AI opponents in musical duels. Winning a Guitar Battle imposes a penalty on the opponent, making it more challenging for them to hit notes.
-
Character and Venue Design: The game features visually engaging character models and venues, adding to the overall rock concert atmosphere. The characters include both real and fictional rock personalities.
-
Customization: Players can customize their virtual rockers with various outfits, guitars, and accessories. This adds a personal touch to the characters used during gameplay.
-
Visual Style: "Guitar Hero III" maintains a stylized and energetic visual style, with vibrant on-screen effects and animations that respond to the player's performance.
-
Reception: The game received positive reviews for its engaging gameplay, diverse soundtrack, and the introduction of new features. The inclusion of online multiplayer was particularly well-received.
